About Ethan D. Smith

 Hello world.

Ethan D. Smith

Ethan D. Smith in 2015

My name is Ethan D. Smith. Why the middle initial everywhere? Well, I have a very common name. It seemed to me that once I got to college and there were 8 other Ethan Smiths in the system, I needed a way to distinguish myself. And Ethan D. Smith has a nice ring to it, so here we are.

I’m 25 years old, and I have a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from NC State University (Class of 2015). I am currently pursuing my Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering at Virginia Tech. My research involves modification of reverse osmosis membranes using nanoparticles in order to study water transport pathways. In other words, I’m trying to get more clean water to flow through a membrane. It’s a fun project that has its challenges.

Presently, alongside my graduate studies, I’ve joined a band, Panda Bag. You can find more information about it and hear some of our songs by clicking here.

In August 2018, I began producing Life, Experienced. It’s a podcast where I sit down and talk to people about their various unique and interesting experiences. I recently moved all of the information about the show over to its own website, which you can view at lifeexperienced.org

This website houses many projects that I’ve worked on over the years. Among these are some documentary-style videos produced in college for various class projects, as well as a 27-part podcast series devoted to curating content from The STEEM Engine blogging group over on Steemit.com. I hope you’ll take the time to check out some of these projects, and feel free to let me know if you have any feedback.

Finally, before I turn you loose to go watch my videos and browse the site, I feel it’s important to mention that I’m a Christ follower. I believe that Jesus saves, he died for everyone, and I want to strive to be more like Him each day. I’ve been fortunate to be a part of two trips to aid the Pine Ridge Baptist Church on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. I documented these two trips with a couple of video projects, which are available here on the site. I hope you’ll take the time to view those to see the impact that the message of Jesus can have on marginalized people groups.

If you’d like to know more about anything or everything that’s here, drop me a line over at the Contact page. I check my email frequently, so I’ll be in touch. You may also follow me on Twitter @ethandsmith if you’re into that sort of thing. Happy browsing!
