So if you haven’t noticed yet, Smithtopia looks much different now. And by much different, I mean much better. Last night, while pondering what I would use for a good blog post on this fine Wednesday, I began thinking about how there are so many good articles on this website, but when a person visits the home page, he only sees the latest post unless he clicks on my obscure text links in the side menus. I decided that I needed to create a much more content-friendly environment for my posts so that they would be more easily accessible to first-time visitors. So off I went into the WordPress world searching for a theme, and after 20 minutes of searching, I discovered the Hybrid theme set for WordPress.
The Hybrid theme set is a parent-child theme which has several themes in it. The current theme of the blog is now the Hybrid-News child theme. While the screenshot of the Hybrid demo webpage looked great, I was disappointed when I installed the theme originally since Smithtopia looked nothing like what I expected. So I had to work on making Smithtopia utilize all of the features of the new theme, a task which ultimately would take about two hours. But despite the work, Smithtopia now is wearing a new outfit, and my does she look amazing. The content slider labeled “Featured” on the home page is another WordPress plugin I found called EasyRotator, and now I am able to show off many of the great posts that one may or may not have seen when visiting Smithtopia for the first time.
Now for those of you who are frequent readers, only the layout has changed, the content has not. Last night, I sought to not just come up with new content for the page, but come up with a new way of housing the content so that it is more easily accessible. Hopefully, I have made this accomplishment, and Smithtopia will be a much more pleasant place to read, comment, and share thoughts in the future.
Again I apologize for the lack of a major content update over the past few days, but I thought that a major site redesign would have to do for today. I will begin working on regular content updates again after this post, so look out world, Smithtopia is looking better than ever, which means I’m excited to post all-new things that hopefully will spark your interest just as the current posts have.
